We are the Off-Road Illini Baja SAE team! Each academic year we design, build, and compete an off-road vehicle. Since our competition is off-road, we have to design and build a very flexible and agile car. Students on our team learn CAD modeling skills, finite-element analysis (FEA), and automotive engineering concepts that aren't covered in classes. We also manufacture many of our components ourselves giving students the opportunity for hands-on work with machinery and hand-tools.
Here's what our races look like! We compete head-to-head on different terrains:
No experience is necessary to join our team! We can teach you everything you need to know to participate. If you're on campus this semester, you can come work in-person on the car (following COVID-19 and shop safety guidelines).
