A note to Grainger faculty, alumni, donors, and peers
From Engineering Council President, Nina Chatrath
This year, Engineering Council was proud to increase our reach to engineering student societies to 90 organizations, now supporting 2,000 Illinois Engineers in their co-curricular activities. I know I am not alone in saying that student organization activities have made my college experience what it is. Each year I expand upon my leadership skills, increase my network, and learn more about myself, my school, and the field of engineering. On Engineering Council, we pride ourselves in providing these opportunities to the Grainger College of Engineering student body.
2019-2020 Engineering Council Executive Board
Internally, our student leaders on Engineering Council hosted some of the college’s largest events including the fall and spring engineering career fairs, Engineers’ Week, Student Introduction To Engineering, and more. Through these programs we served over 8,000 current and prospective students. Additionally, our Engineering Open House (EOH) team worked extremely quickly to deliver a virtual experience for EOH at the end of March, just weeks after we were sent home due to COVID-19.
Engineering Career Fair
Every year I am amazed by the accomplishments of my peers in the student groups that Engineering Council brings together. This year, through the Engineering Council Funding Program, we supported groups as they brought women in tech together, built full size solar powered homes, competed in competitions, attended national conferences and so much more.

We enjoy working regularly with our deans to provide a voice for Grainger students in all capacities. In efforts to increase transparency with college administration and throughout the entire college, we began the Grainger Council of Presidents, a platform for student society presidents to come together to share ideas, express concerns to faculty and deans, and learn from one and other.

To say the very least, I was extremely impressed with all Grainger Students were able to deliver in just 1.5 semesters of in person programming, and the agility of our members to start thinking about how we can continue to advocate for and support the student body virtually in the upcoming year. Where ever the upcoming year takes us I can say for certain we will continue with our college motto in mind more than ever, and keep on Doing the Impossible Everyday.
